DELTACAST early adopts SMPTE 425-3 and SMPTE 425-5 standards for 4K video

Wednesday, June 11, 2014 - DELTACAST early adopts SMPTE 425-3 and SMPTE 425-5 standards for 4K video

DELTACAST proudly announces early support for the new SMPTE 425-3 and 425-5 standards for 4K SDI video transmission, only a few weeks after the standardization committee published them.

SMPTE 425-3 and SMPTE 425-5 standards respectively allow 4K transmission at up to 30 frames per second using two 3G SDI links and at up to 60 frames per second using four 3G SDI links.

These new standards also define a completely new source image mapping structure, where each of the sub-streams carries on a scaled-down version of the 4K picture.

Our products have been supporting 4K SDI implementations since their preliminary adoption by the industry and quickly evolve as new technologies and standards arise.

That is why we created a dedicated solution for the early adopters of these new standards including:

- a specific VideoMasterHD version bringing SMPTE 425-3 and SMPTE 425-5 standards support on our 4-channel 3G SDI cards: DELTA-3G-elp 40 or DELTA-3G-elp-d 40 for 4K ingest, and DELTA-3G-elp-d 04  for 4K playout

- dedicated documentation, code examples for 4K reception and transmission and specific versions of our dSCOPE and dREC free applications

In addition to this dedicated solution, we are of course integrating these emerging SMPTE standards in the future versions of DELTACAST cards and SDKs.

But the story does not end up here! The SMPTE committee currently drafts other standards for 4K transmission over higher-speed interfaces and DELTACAST actively works on their integration… Keep an eye on our announcements around IBC!
